How is custom software different from off-the-shelf tools?
Off-the-shelf tools are built for the widest possible market, so you end up adapting your process to fit the software. Custom software is the other way around: we map your actual workflow first and build exactly what you need. You get no unused features, no workarounds, and no paying for a module you never open.
How long does a custom software build take?
Most projects run 8 to 16 weeks from discovery to launch. Discovery and scoping take two to three weeks, then we build in short sprints so you see working software at each checkpoint rather than only at the end.
Do we own the code when the project is done?
Yes. The code, the IP, and the repository are yours at handoff. We do not retain any licence fee or ongoing rights. If you want us to continue managing or evolving the software after launch, we can discuss a retainer, but that is your call.
Can a custom software project qualify for SR&ED funding?
Quite often, yes. Projects that involve solving a technical uncertainty, such as building something that has not been done before in your context, can qualify for Canada's SR&ED tax credit. We document our work as we go, which makes the claim process much smoother. Reach out early because eligibility is easier to establish before the work starts, not after.
